Novi Sad Architecture Students on a Study Visit to Denmark

23.11.2017  14:00

A group of around 90 students of Novi Sad´s Architecture Faculty spent a fruitful few days in Copenhagen, in the beginning of November. The Embassy helped organize their visits, and here is what their mentor and Professor, Darko Reba had to say about their visit:

For a Serbian version of his comment, see bellow.

'A trip to Copenhagen made my wishes come true. I had long wished to see and visit the city and its urban culture, which has been a role model for architecture and planning.

As part of our student trip and in cooperation with the Embassy of Denmark in Belgrade, we managed to visit the Architectural bureau COBE, where our students could first hand see the system and process of planning in one of the most significant architectural companies, that operates not only in Denmark.

Then there was also a fantastic lecture by Professor Jan Gehl, who showed the students most avant-garde strategy of city planning, exclusively focused on people and space proportion that makes people feel comfortable and content.

A meeting with the city urban planner, Jacob Matzen, who is actively involved in Copenhagen development plans was a big part of the learning process and experiencing urban transformations in as settled country as Denmark is. He hosted us on a rooftop of a garage, which is at the same time a playground for big kids in the Northern harbour of Copenhagen,

We have also visited the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen, which includes studies of Architecture and Urban Planning. Students could see the fantastic conditions of, once a military quarter, now Arts Academy, nearby the new Opera house.

Aside from these organized visits, we have also had the chance to enjoy the fantastic new architecture of Bjarke Ingels and his bureau - BIG, as well as many other architecture and urban realizations of Denmark.

I hope that this journey will open new views and perspectives for our students when it comes to cities and architecture, and that they will transfer some of the positive experiences into our society and urban planning of architecture spaces.'
