Montenegro, EU and reforms

Montenegrin negotiations on EU accession started in June 2012, ever since the country has been harmonizing its legislation according to the EU requirements. Economic development is focused on improving the institutional and regulatory environment to make it more business-oriented, enhancing energy resilience and transition to implement the Green Agenda, further digitalization and simplifying administrative procedures and reform of the state-owned enterprises. Special attention is dedicated to the large infrastructure projects that need better management and prioritization. The World Bank's Ease of Doing Business report ranks Montenegro at 50th place, which is a substantial improvement since the country’s independence in 2006.
