New EES for non-EU citizens
Travelling for non-EU nationals will now be easier.
The European Union has launched a new Entry/Exit System (EES) which will be in effect from 12 October, 2025, onwards. The EES is an automated IT-system for registering non-EU nationals travelling for a short stay, each time they cross the external borders of Schengen. Further information on the EES can be found here: https://travel-europe.europa.eu/ees/what-is-the-ees.
What is the Entry/Exit System (EES)?
The Entry/Exit System (EES) is a digital system for registering non-EU nationals travellers every time they enter or leave the external borders of any European countries using the EES.
The EES will make border checks faster and easier by replacing passport stamps with a digital system. For more info check out here: https://travel-europe.europa.eu/ees/what-is-the-ees
Starting from 12 October 2025, European countries using the EES will gradually implement the system at their external borders. In Denmark, the process will begin at Copenhagen Airport (CPH) and will later extend to the entire Kingdom of Denmark.
From 10 April 2026, traditional passport stamping will be replaced by the digital Entry/Exit System. This system will, with some exceptions, record biometric data, travel document information, and travel dates for non-EU nationals. It will also document any refusals of entry.
European countries implementing the EES will phase in the system gradually at their external borders.
