Residence and Work Permits

Information about how to apply for a residence and/or work permit.

Any person who is to remain in Denmark for more than 90 days or is to take up employment or study during any period must apply for a residence and/or work permit prior to entering Denmark. The general procedure for applying a residence and/or work permit is described in detail at the homepage of the Danish Immigration Service.

As of 1st November 2019 all applications for Visa and Work/Residence permits to Denmark should be submitted at the Visa Application Centre, VFS Global in Belgrade.

The approximated processing time can be found at this website. Applicants are advised to approach the Visa Application Centre for Denmark in Belgrade well in advance of their foreseen departure.

The following documentation is necessary:

  1. A passport valid for at least three months beyond the validity of the requested permit.
  2. A duly filled-in form (available at the Embassy or download).
  3. Documentation related to the reason for the application (e.g. marriage certificate in case of application for family reunification and contract of employment in case of application for work permit).
  4. A non-refundable handling fee (refer Fees).

From 1 July 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark is introducing mandatory online payment of the VFS fee for residence and work permits.

Applicants should pay the fee using this link: before they appear at the VFS Global to capture their biometrics.

Additional information may be obtained here.

Please note: Special forms for application are available at the homepage of the Danish Immigration Service.
